Chapter 6 — Inner Work

The sky above was a soft shade of dawn, painted with gold and lavender as we gathered once more. The city was beginning to stir, its people moving through their morning routines, unaware that their lives might change today. The weight of responsibility sat heavy on my chest. We were not just teachers, we were students, grasping at the edges of something vast, something ancient.

Today was different. Today, we would begin mastering the Names, one by one.

Adam stood at my side, his arms folded as he observed the morning with quiet contemplation. Beside him, Eve had an unreadable expression, the kind that held both wisdom and the burden of past regrets. Jadz adjusted the sleeves of her jacket, her lips pressed in thought. We had spent days teaching others the Names, planting seeds of faith, but now we had to turn inward.

“We can’t teach what we don’t understand,” I murmured. “If we are going to pass these tests the Universe has for us, we have to live these Names, not just speak them.”

Jadz exhaled. “Agreed. But let’s be honest; this isn’t going to be easy.”

Eve nodded, her voice soft but firm. “Transformation never is.”

What followed was not a single lesson but a season of inner work. Adam and Eve did not rush us through the Names as if we were memorizing a chart. They made us sit with each one, test it against our lives, and ask where we were still resisting the Light. Some Names brought comfort. Others exposed places in us we had spent years avoiding. By the time we began the next stage, I understood that learning the Names was not the same as living them.

Vav Hey Vav – Time Travel (Correcting Past Mistakes)

We began with the first Name, Vav Hey Vav, the power to correct past mistakes. The energy of the Name pulsed between us, and as I closed my eyes, I felt the weight of my own regrets pressing against my chest.

“What would you change, if you could go back?” Adam asked, his voice carrying an edge of knowing.

I hesitated, then answered. “I would have been stronger. I wouldn’t have enabled people in ways that held them back.” My voice cracked slightly. “I don’t want to be seen as an enabler, yet I fear that’s exactly what I’ve become.”

Jadz’s gaze softened, and for the first time that morning, she reached for my hand. “Maybe the past isn’t about changing. Maybe it’s about understanding.”

I turned the Name over in my mind, and for the first time, I saw it—not as a way to erase mistakes, but to learn from them. The past had shaped me, but it didn’t have to define me.

Yud Lamed Yud – Recapturing Sparks of the Soul

Eve led us into the second Name, Yud Lamed Yud, a Name for restoring lost pieces of ourselves.

“You think the soul is whole,” she said. “But over time, it fractures—through pain, through fear, through forgetting who we are.”

Jadz frowned, arms crossed. “And what, we just... glue it back together?”

Adam smiled. “Not glue. Light.”

We sat in meditation, calling back the pieces of ourselves we had lost. Jadz had always struggled with cynicism, and I could feel her wrestling with it now. But as we breathed through the Name, I saw something in her soften. Maybe she, too, had lost a part of herself along the way.

Samech Yud Tet – Miracle Making

We moved on to the third Name, Samech Yud Tet, the power of miracles.

“What does it take for a miracle?” I asked.

Eve’s answer was simple. “Belief.”

Jadz scoffed. “I’m not sure belief is enough.”

Adam chuckled. “That’s the problem. Miracles don’t happen for people who only believe when it’s convenient. They happen when faith persists in the face of doubt.”

We turned to meditation, calling on the Name to open our hearts to possibility. As we did, I thought back to all the moments in my life where things had seemed hopeless, only to shift when I least expected. Maybe miracles weren’t always loud. Maybe they whispered.

Ayin Lamed Mem – Eliminating Negative Thoughts

Jadz sighed, running a hand through her hair. “This is the one I need.”

She had always been quick-witted, sharp-tongued, but I knew her thoughts could be just as cutting, especially toward herself. Ayin Lamed Mem was a Name for dissolving negativity, for switching off the ego’s destructive thoughts.

We breathed, focusing on the letters.

Jadz exhaled, shaking her head. “It’s hard to let go of the way you’ve always thought.”

Eve gave her a small, knowing smile. “That’s because the ego likes control.”

Mem Hey Shin – Healing

We turned to Mem Hey Shin, the Name of healing.

Eve spoke first. “Healing isn’t about erasing pain. It’s about moving forward despite it.”

Adam nodded. “And sometimes, it’s about accepting what can’t be changed.”

I felt this one deeply. I had spent so much time trying to fix things—people, situations, even Jadz’s doubts—but maybe healing wasn’t about fixing. Maybe it was about allowing.

Lamed Lamed Hey – Truthful Dreams

Night had fallen by the time we reached Lamed Lamed Hey, the Name for truthful dreams.

Adam exhaled. “What is your deepest truth?”

The question hit hard. Truth was terrifying. It forced us to face parts of ourselves we wanted to ignore.

Jadz’s voice was quiet. “That I’m afraid.”

Eve placed a hand on her shoulder. “That’s okay. Truth isn’t about never being afraid. It’s about knowing your fear doesn’t define you.”

Aleph Kaf Aleph – Bringing Order to Life

The next Name, Aleph Kaf Aleph, was about creating structure and meaning.

Jadz smirked. “So, basically, this Name is telling me to get my life together.”

Adam laughed. “More or less.”

I found comfort in this Name. There was peace in knowing that everything had its place, that even chaos had an underlying order.

Kaf Hey Tav – Defusing Negative Energy

Next was Kaf Hey Tav, a Name for defusing stress and negative energy.

Eve handed me a stone. “Hold it. Feel its weight.”

I did.

“Now let it go.”

I dropped the stone, watching it fall.

“That’s what this Name does,” she said. “It reminds us that we don’t have to carry every burden.”

Hey Zayin Yud – Accessing Angelic Influence

We moved to Hey Zayin Yud, a Name for calling on divine assistance.

Eve’s voice was steady. “You are never alone.”

It was a simple statement, but it hit hard.

Next was Aleph Lamed Daled, a Name for protection.

Adam touched my shoulder. “Not all attacks are visible. Some come in whispers, in doubts, in thoughts that aren’t your own.”

I nodded. Protection wasn’t just about guarding the body. It was about guarding the soul.

Lamed Aleph Vav – Banishing Evil Remnants

The twelfth Name, Lamed Aleph Vav, helped cleanse lingering negativity.

Eve closed her eyes. “This is about release. About wiping the slate clean.”

Jadz nodded. “I think I need that.”

Hey Hey Ayin – Transforming Hatred to Love

The final Name of the night was Hey Hey Ayin, a Name for replacing hatred with love.

I thought back to all the moments of conflict, of misunderstanding. Love wasn’t always easy. But it was always possible.

As the night deepened, I knew—we had taken the first step.
